What we thought.

Field notes from the lab, written 2025 to 2026 while it was operating.

A bartender throws a Martini between two frosted tins, a long arc of gin pouring from one to the other in front of a softly blurred back bar.

A Devil’s Grin Texas Gin bottle split down the center: the left half deployed in a red environment on black marble, the right half as the white-background digital twin on black plexiglass, shot and composited by Ford Media Lab.

Your bottle has a digital twin. Or it should.

A wide studio image of The Botanist Islay Dry Gin bottle centered against a background that shifts from pure white on the left to a soft out-of-focus Islay moorland on the right, the green landscape refracting through the liquid to the left side of the bottle while the embossed Latin botanical names stay crisp across the glass.

The bottle shot is the hardest thing we do

06.30.20267 min
A premium whiskey bottle and cocktail, shot in dark moody studio light, rendered as a half-finished jigsaw puzzle on a bright everyday work table. Loose pieces are scattered across the table, and several placed pieces are visibly wrong, fragments of completely different photographs jammed where they don’t belong, illustrating how a coherent brand fragments when it is assembled by separate hands working from different sets with no shared point of view.

The hidden cost of an agency that’s never worked the bar

06.30.20266 min
A bartender’s hand uses fine tweezers to place a mint sprig onto an unfinished Southside fizz in a tall highball glass, with a premium gin bottle blurred behind and bar tools and loose mint scattered on a dark surface. A close study of the hands-on detail and styling labor behind professional cocktail photography.

What a spirits photo costs

06.25.20268 min
A meticulously styled craft Negroni sits on a grimy convenience-store counter beside a handwritten “$7.99 Craft Cocktail” sign, surrounded by hot dogs, energy drinks, and lottery tickets. The cocktail is subtly degrading in the wrong setting, illustrating how a premium product loses its meaning when placed everywhere without a coherent visual strategy.
