This Week in AI Innovation...
Dear Ford Media Lab Community,
This week has been one of the most transformative in our studio's history. Not transformative in the way that sounds grand and lofty, but transformative in the truest sense—the kind that leaves you staring at your screen, shaking your head in disbelief at what just happened.
Monday: Business as Usual
Monday started with a test. We were creating an AI composite and video animation for a prospective client—and honestly, what we produced was really great. Little did I know that by Wednesday, we'd discover just how much better our output was about to become.
Wednesday: The Wonder
By Wednesday, everything changed. We discovered a new tool that didn't just improve our capabilities—it made everything we'd done before feel antiquated. Obsolete. In the span of 48 hours, we went from limitations executing a concept to exceeding what I had even dared to envision on Monday.
On Wednesday, this happened 👆
I've never experienced anything like it. The speed of innovation in AI isn't just fast—it's exponential in ways that defy our traditional understanding of progress.
The Struggle and the Validation
Some days, I'll admit, it feels like we're screaming into the wind. We're fighting to convince would-be clients that this isn't just hype—this is the future, happening right now. We're trying to bridge the gap between skepticism and possibility, between "that's interesting" and "we need that."
But then there are days like this week, when everything falls into place in the most unexpected ways.
A Random Encounter That Said Everything
I was sitting in a waiting room this week, making small talk with a complete stranger—another business owner, as it turned out. Our conversation drifted to business challenges, and she mentioned something that stopped me cold. She had recently severed ties with her expensive traditional agencies. Why? Because she found a partner who could deliver faster, better, more efficient work using AI tools. She was so convinced of the value that she brought this partner in-house.
Here was validation from someone who had no idea what Ford Media Lab does, no reason to tell me what I wanted to hear. She was simply sharing her own transformation story—one that mirrors exactly what we've been preaching.
The Fear-to-Embrace Cycle
Technology has always followed this pattern: fear, then gradual acceptance, then wonder at how we ever lived without it. Think about electricity, computers, the internet. Each was met with skepticism, concern about job displacement, worry about what we were losing in the transition.
But now? We see these innovations as fundamental tools that enable us to live richer, more connected, more productive lives.
AI is in that same cycle right now. The fear is real, but so is the incredible potential for those willing to embrace it early.
What Keeps Me Inspired
What truly excites me isn't just the technology itself—it's watching our capabilities expand in real-time. Monday's impossible becomes Wednesday's baseline. Wednesday's breakthrough becomes Friday's starting point. The pace is breathtaking, and yes, sometimes overwhelming.
Can it be a struggle to keep up? Absolutely. The learning curve is steep, and the landscape shifts daily. But thank goodness we have tools that make us more efficient as we adapt (wink).
Looking Forward
This week reminded me why we do what we do. We're not just early adopters—we're translators, helping brands navigate this transformation with confidence instead of fear. We're showing what's possible when you embrace change rather than resist it.
The future isn't coming—it's here. And this week proved, once again, that being part of shaping that future is exactly where we want to be.
Here's to the next impossible thing that becomes possible by Friday.
With excitement for what's next,
